Better Resource Monitor

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

Overview

Better Resource Monitor (“the App”) is a desktop application that displays system resource information in your menu bar. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data.

The App operates entirely locally on your device. All system information (CPU usage, memory usage, storage usage, network activity, GPU stats) is:

  • Read directly from your operating system
  • Displayed only on your local screen
  • Never transmitted to any external servers
  • Never stored in any external database

Storage usage is calculated from OS-reported total and free capacity for the selected local volume, which defaults to the volume containing your home folder. To offer disk choices, the App reads the names, mount points, and capacity of eligible mounted local volumes, including external disks. Your chosen mount point is saved locally as a preference. The App does not read file names or file contents.

Data Storage

The App stores your preferences (such as which metrics to display and appearance settings) locally on your device using your operating system’s standard configuration storage.

On macOS, the App also appends timestamped diagnostic entries to local autostart.log files in Library log directories, including app-container locations, to help troubleshoot startup, launch at login, and menu bar operation. These logs can include the App version and build commit identifier, login-item registration status, selected settings, startup and tray events, error messages, and local file paths (such as executable, App Store receipt, and process-lock paths). Preferences and diagnostic logs remain on your device; the App does not transmit them.

Third-Party Services

The App does not:

  • Use analytics services
  • Include advertising
  • Connect to external APIs
  • Share data with third parties

Network Access

The App monitors your network activity to display upload/download speeds. It does not:

  • Make any outbound network requests
  • Send any data over the internet
  • Access your network traffic content

Open Source

Better Resource Monitor is open source software. You can review the complete source code at GitHub to verify these privacy practices.

Product privacy questions

Does it collect any data?
No. Zero network requests, no analytics, no telemetry. Everything stays on your machine. Storage usage comes from OS-reported total/free capacity for the selected local volume, defaulting to the volume containing your home folder. The disk picker reads local volume names, mount points, and capacity, including external disks; it does not read file names or contents. The source code is on GitHub if you want to verify that yourself.
